Our Story
The story behind CLAY ELLAY
Growing up in Alexandria, I spent a lot of time wandering through الزنقة that maze of vintage shops where you'd find the most unexpected things tucked between old clothes and forgotten treasures. I was collecting paper beads before I had words for why. Creating was just how I understood the world.
I wanted art school. I ended up in veterinary medicine and I don't regret a day of it. But the making never fully left me. It just went quiet for a while.
Then came my thirties. Twins. A full career. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, a creeping feeling that I'd lost track of who I was outside of my roles. I tried makeup. Skincare. I became an influencer for a stretch, searching for something to hold on to. None of it quite fit.
Polymer clay found me during COVID the way all the right things find you when you finally stop moving long enough to notice them.
I started experimenting the way I always had as a kid curiously, obsessively, without a destination. Four years of learning, failing, finding my palette, losing it, finding it again. And then, slowly, a style emerged that felt genuinely mine. Not borrowed. Not trending. Mine.
I'm in my forties now. I'm a veterinarian, a mother, and an artist and for the first time in my life, those three things feel like they belong to the same person. Clay Ellay is what happens when you finally stop apologising for all the things you are and start making something out of all of them.
Every piece I make carries that. The curiosity of الزنقة, the precision of a doctor's hands, the patience of someone who took the long road and arrived exactly where she was meant to be.

I work exclusively with professional-grade polymer clay a material that rewards patience and precision in equal measure. What sets a Clay Ellay piece apart starts before any shape is made: I mix my own colours by hand, blending pigments until I land on the exact tone I saw in my mind. No two batches are identical.
